1. Five Day Workshop on Introduction to Transportation Network Science (Online)
1 - 5 November, 2022 (7-9 pm)
Sessions by
- Dr. Tarun Rambha (Assistant Professor), Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore
- Mr. Prateek Agarwal (PMRF Ph.D. Scholar), Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore
Transportation networks are a framework of routes, linking locations. The links have characteristics such as speed and capacity for roadways; frequency and travel time data are defined on transit links or lines for the transit system.
Nowadays, journey planning is typically aided by mobile apps and backend algorithms. Ideally, These applications must be fast and should provide details on efficient routes between origins and destinations of the passenger. Apart from efficiency, another important aspect of these problems is their scalability.
The main contents of the workshop are:
- The various applications of computer science and allied domains in the field of transportation networks.
- Route planning in transportation networks.
- Introduction to Dial-A-Ride Problem (DARP), Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP), and Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP).
- Introduction to notion of equilibrium in transportation networks.
- Hands-on sessions on:
- Use of shortest path algorithms in the NetworkX module of Python on real world graphs imported using OpenStreetMaps.
- Journey planning algorithms for public transit systems
- Google OR-Tools
- IBM CPLEX
.

3. Workshop On Data Science With Complex Networks
28th and 29th September 2022, Time : 8.00 PM to 9.30 PM IST. Access here
We are surrounded by numerous networks like social networks, the World Wide Web, road networks, power networks, epidemic networks, etc. Today, the world has become highly interconnected and hence more complex. Any complex phenomenon such as information cascades, climate change, pandemics, financial crisis, and blackouts can be visualised as networks. They encompass surprising secrets and they can be revealed with the help of network science theory. Network science (Theory of Complex Networks) is a very young multidisciplinary area of study which was developed to aid in modelling and understanding interactions in many complex systems like social groups, economic systems, biological processes, ecological webs, human brain connectivity, epidemic spreading and transportation systems. The theory as well as application of complex networks form a very relevant and broad area of study in recent times. The subscribers can access the recorded video classes of the LIVE session, for a duration of three months.
